The design for Te Kura O Take Kārara was inspired by five key themes: local environment, culture, community, sustainability and an emphasis on outdoor learning. With this in mind, a curved winding path welcomes visitors into the main entrance of the school toward a central amphitheatre with performance stage/platform. Separate junior and senior play area have been created with a large sandpit to create clear definition between the two. Veggie gardens, water tanks and fruit trees provide connection to the themes of community and sustainability and majority of the planting is native with exotic ornamental trees to tie in with Central Otago’s autumn colours.
